Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade went toe to toe with the media Wednesday to debut his Jordan Fly Wade 2 shoes.

The all-star basketball player said he was busy during the NBA lockout helping design and test the new shoe. He said the style and finish were inspired by something he loves: automobiles.

"I like clean, like the Aston Martin, just how clean the Aston Martin is, how sleek it is. You think about how clean the front of the Aston Martin is shaped." said the Heat player.

Wade went on to say the shoe was ready for an October rollout but was put on hold for the NBA lockout.

Wade will be wearing a pair on Opening Day against the Dallas Mavericks, so Local 10’s Todd Tongen asked him how he felt starting the season against the team’s arch nemesis.

"I am excited. I would play you on opening day,” Wade said. “I am just excited to get back to basketball. This is what we love to do. There is no question about the matchup. That’s the last team we played, and this will be the first team we play this year, so we are fine with it. It is going to be great for everyone to get back to the game of basketball on Christmas Day.”

Tongen also asked him if a 48-year-old news reporter with bad knees were to buy his shoe, would he play like Wade?

"No -- not at all,” Wade said as he laughed.

“So don’t buy them?” Tongen asked.

“Don't think you can play like me, because when I am 48, I won't be able to play like me now,” Wade said.

As a thorough reporter, Tongen put the Fly Wade 2 sneakers to the test to see if they would elevate his game. As he missed a dunk, even with the help of a trampoline, he had to admit Wade was right.
